Active Membership: For artists, gallery owners and art businesses who live and/or work in Covington.
Associate Membership: For artists, gallery owners and art businesses who live and work outside of Covington. Also for all non-profit organizations.
Patron Membership: For those people who wish to support the mission of the Covington Art Merchants, but are not eligible for Active or Associate membership.
The Covington Art Merchants have very low dues ($20/year), but we also require the following necessary business practices:
1. Submit your business card. You can't be in business without a business card.
2. Submit your resume / biography. This is a basic requirement for any gallery show or press release. Having this information allows the Art Merchants to advertise you and you to advertise yourself. It tells who you are, where you are from, what you do, and how you ended up here (in Covington). We post these bios on the Art Merchant website.
3. Submit an artist's /writer's/ gallery owner's statement. Unlike the resume or biography, this is a short statement about your own work or gallery. It describes what you get out of your medium and what the "customer" is supposed to be seeing, appreciating and hopefully buying. Both the resume and the artist's statement are of utmost importance to gallery owners when trying to promote your work and of the utmost importance to you when trying to sell your own work (or get your work into a gallery).
4. Submit at least one publicity photo. For visual artists this may be a photo of their work, for gallery owners it may be a photo of their gallery, façade, or work that is stylistically typical of the gallery. For musicians, poets, writers and actors this means a "traditional" head-shot. We are a visual society; you cannot succeed without something visual to represent you. We realize that professional photos can be very expensive, however, you may email to: info@CovingtonArtMerchants.com and we may be able to help you get something suitable.
Items recommended, but not required for membership include:
1. No matter where you live, register to vote. You are not a true supporter of the arts if you are not registered to vote. We cannot have a voice in civic matters (and how our cities allocate money) if we are not all registered to vote. If moving to Covington, you may register when you apply for your driver's license. Half of Covington’s current commission won their political races by the votes of less than 50 people.
2. A business plan. This is required when applying for a business loan.
3. A web presence. This is required by the time in which we live. |
