STORE STATEMENT
The Lovely Teaspoon is a small shop that carries handmade, vintage and second hand items. I sell artists' work on consignment as well as my own creations. I am always looking for new artists. Customers always tell me how the store reminds them of something they would find in New York City or California. People just love the giant dinosaur painted on the wall and the bright colors of the store. The store inventory is always growing and changing in variety. I plan to keep it that way. |

THE ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I don't consider myself an artist, I consider myself a crafter. Like an artist I take great pride in my work. I make jewelry, handbags and other fashion accessories. I love using found objects, every day objects or anything else I can get a hold of to make into jewelry or any other fashion accessory. I would like others to view my work as fun and creative. Something they would have never thought would make great jewelry. I get people all the time telling me how it is great that I make jewelry out of items they pick up off the floor every day - like toys. Or how the piece reminds them of their childhood and can't help but grin or laugh. I love making custom items for people who have ideas for jewelry but don't know how to make it themselves. Helping others and having variety is very important to me and I hope viewers of my work can see that.
BIOGRAPHY
I had always been interested in the fashion industry. In High School I was featured in the school newspaper as "Trendsetter" and I was featured in the yearbook's fashion pages. In fall 2004, I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California. I finished one year. After having twin boys, I returned to Kentucky to be closer to my family. Even though I am an "art school drop-out" I never stop thinking about how I can make my mark in the fashion industry.
In January 2007, I started making jewelry and handbags to sell on my Etsy web-shop - www.TheLovelyTeaspoon.etsy.com. People liked my work and my business grew. I started thinking about opening a store. A friend suggested Covington's MainStrasse neighborhood, so I checked it out. In June 2007, I opened my store named "The Lovely Teaspoon" at 714 main St. - Covington, KY. I wish to return to school but until then I will expand my business by consigning to galleries, selling wholesale and selling on-line. I also want to help other local artists by selling their work on consignment in my store.
